I had the great honor to sponsor and support GenInc’s “Girls can Program Too” workshops in Washington DC this past July. The official name was a bit more official but the marketing side of me can’t help jazz it up.
GenInc was founded by the extremely bright and passionate Genevieve L’Esperance (she’s only 17!) the organization is working with companies like Microsoft to help build interest in programming with teenage girls. They do this by putting on programming workshops where in a couple hours young girls are able to create their first program and see that technology is fun and easy – not just for boys. They also get to mingle with other girls that are interested in technology realizing they are not alone, and meet excellent role models like Genevieve. The video below has more information – if you would like to help or stay tuned to GenInc email her at: gen (at) geninc.tv or click here for her fan page.
Here is the video of the workshop including GenInc’s interview with James Cameron
